Robert Sedgley was born inBirmingham, England. He studied fine art at Birmingham and Exeter Colleges of Art with post graduate studies at the city of Leicester Polytechnic. He taught art and photography for twenty years in Hertfordshire. 

He has held solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows in England, Spain and Sri Lanka. His work is included in private collections in Europe, America and Sri Lanka. This is his second exhibition in Sri Lanka and concentrates on his impressions of the wide variety of different buildings, from holy sites to humble dwellings, that he has found on his travells around the country. It also includes work from his travels in other countries, notably France and Uganda.
